Some pics of Lorry with his new body (CP Chiwoo/Serendipity)

I haven't had a chance to blush his body to match his head, so his body is much lighter. However, the fit is great--I didn't have to do any modding to the neck or head, and his head and body look proportionate. I'm glad I got this body instead of the AR Fair body. I love the look of the AR body, but the Serendipity body works much better with the Chiwoo head.

Another advantage to this body--he has an extra joint in his thighs, so he can sit cross legged and take on other poses.

Photos of Donncha

I took the boys to NKU the other night to get some pics. I've had Donncha since June, and this is the first time I've photographed the poor guy. For anyone who's curious, he's a Unidoll 06.

Eavesdroppers and Empires (Fiction)

Eavesdroppers and Empires

Lorry stared at the math text book willing him self to concentrate, but it just wasn’t working. Ok he thought, at least I’m close to done…5/6 x ¾ hmmm…ok—Lorry’s train of thought promptly derailed as Paudin darted into the kitchen, sliding slightly as his socks hit the gray and blue linoleum floor.

“Lorry!” he hissed.

Lorry looked up from his book in annoyance. “Not now, I have to get this done--”

Paudin, however, was not easily deterred. “Aunt Kate’s here, and there’s something going on.” He informed his younger brother.

“Oh?” Lorry asked, suddenly interested. Their parents had been behaving strangely since they had gotten home from school, and Lorry couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad had happened.

He set his pencil down on the scarred kitchen table and rose quietly to follow Paudin to the living room door, which was firmly closed—another sure sign that something was up, since nobody ever bothered to actually close the door. They sank down and pressed their ears to the battered, age-darkened wood. Neither had said it, but they both had a feeling that their parent’s didn’t want them involved in what was happening.

“This is terrible. I don’t know what we’re going to do.” Kate’s voice was saying. She sounded like she had been crying, and Lorry couldn’t remember a time where he had ever seen Kate cry.

“We’ll help anyway we can.” His father’s voice replied while Lorry and Paudin exchanged worried looks. The sound of approaching footsteps made Lorry jump until he realized it was another one of his brothers. Diarmid looked at them, clearly puzzled by Lorry and Paudin’s covert behavior.

“What are you two doing?” He asked loudly, pushing shaggy black hair back from startlingly blue eyes.

“Diarmid, shh!” Paudin replied as he gestured for silence, and turned his attention back to the other room.

“Oh, you want to know what’s going on with Kate.” He continued, barely lowering his voice.

“Yes, shut up! I want to hear this.” Paudin whispered angrily.

Diarmid sighed and began more quietly, “Tomas was arrested. I doubt they’ll ever let him out this time…probably why--”

“You’re just guessing, right? Lorry asked apprehensively.

Diarmid shook his head. “No, he was definitely arrested. Apparently--”

“How do you know?” Paudin demanded, cutting of his younger brother before he could elaborate further. Diarmid just shrugged.

“Guys, keep it down.” Lorry warned as he tried to ignore the sick feeling in the pit of his stomach. Diarmid had a way of knowing everything that went on. How, he wasn’t entirely sure, but his sibling was rarely wrong. However, what the exact details of his uncle’s arrest were, he wasn’t destined to find out. At that moment the door Lorry was leaning against swung open.

“Oof.” Paudin grunted as he tipped over.

“Boys, what are you doing?”

The smart remark that Lorry would’ve made under any other circumstances died on his lips when he saw his father’s face. He looked tired and angry; not at all his usual good humored self. Ciaran leaned against the door frame, rubbed his face with his hands, and then regarded his three youngest children.

“It’s not polite to eavesdrop, and don’t you have anything better to do?” His question was met with awkward silence.

Ciaran sighed. “Lorry, go finish your schoolwork. Paudin, go clean your room—it looks like the site of a natural disaster. Diarmid, er, go do something somewhere else…Now.” He added in a tone that left no room for argument.

Lorry stood up slowly, pausing a moment to allow the circulation to return to his right foot and then made his way back to the kitchen table. His brothers’ footsteps receded up the stairs as he picked up his pencil, though he knew it would be no use. Math just didn’t seem very important anymore.

After a few minutes had passed, Diarmid poked his head into the kitchen, checked to see if the coast was clear, and then went and sat down next to Lorry.

“Hey,” he said softly. “Tomas and some other guys got caught trying to plant a bomb. I overheard Da telling Seanin what happened. Anyway, Kate’s really upset and they’ll move here to be closer to us—I think she’s worried about Frank.” Diarmid said all of this very quickly without taking a breath.

“Oh.” Lorry said. “that’s awful.”

“Yeah.” Diarmid stared at the table top for a few minutes before retreating back upstairs.

Lorry slammed the text book shut, a feeling of injustice welling up inside him. It’s not fair. He thought angrily. Things shouldn’t be this way. He tried to put himself in Frank’s shoes. It was bad enough having a brother that he barely knew, but he had a hard time imaging his life without his father.

* * *

“Ma’s looking for a house and job up here.” Frank informed them two weeks later.

Lorry, Liam, Brogan, and Frank were sitting behind the house, basking in the warm spring sunlight.

Brogan turned his soft blue green eyes to Frank and regarded the thirteen year old for a moment. “At least you’ll know some people here.” He finally said.

Frank shrugged and sat down, leaning back against the wall of the house. “I guess I don’t mind moving.” He sat forward suddenly and peered around the wall before digging in his jacket pocket for a pack of cigarettes. He pulled out one of the slim white sticks, stuck it in his mouth and reached for a lighter.

“You’d better not get caught doing that.” Lorry warned his cousin.

Frank took a draw from the cigarette and relaxed back against the wall. “As long as I’m careful, I doubt Ma will notice.”

“Huh.” Lorry replied. “You’d better hope she doesn’t.”

Frank made no indication that he had heard. He sat fiddling with the lighter in silence. “They’ll get what’s coming to them.” Frank said quietly. “Bastards.” His voice was calm, but his eyes, so like Lorry’s, were cold.

“I’m sure they will eventually.” Brogan assured him matter-of-factly. As usual, he had faith that no matter how bad things were, it would all be put right in the end.

While Lorry held firmly to the belief that Ireland would someday be united, he doubted that there was much anyone could do to help his uncle, or Frank for that matter. He glanced over at the cold calculating look on his cousin’s face and decided that the British Empire had just made a serious enemy. Even if he is thirteen, Lorry thought. But people don’t stay thirteen for ever.

Author's Notes:
I wrote this along with some other backstory stuff in an attempt at NaNo which I failed at miserably. I was hoping to have some photostories up by this point(end Nov 2006), but I'm as slow as a three-toed sloth on pot. I'm almost there, though. Frank and Liam got hair cuts and now look more like themselves, and Lorry has a body of the appropriate height, though I still have to blush it to match. Of course, once I shoot the first one, I have to wait until I get Rory in Feb. to do the second installment *bangs head on keyboard* so in the meantime, I thought I'd post some writing. Oh, I didn't feel like fighting with the comp, so I left out the accent marks in people's names (as if anybody really cares).

Posting writing makes me nervous. I don't know why, but I get this sense of dread everytime I contemplate puting this stuff on the net. I have this fear of having virtual rotten veggies lobbed at me, but since the only people that are probably going to read this anyway are friends, I should probably just calm down.
